DJI Mic 2 Review: the good, the bad and the ugly

Published on: 29th November, 2024

As the wireless microphone offerings expand, so does my need to review them. Traditionally, the wireless microphone space was a bit lacklustre. They had clunky receivers that you had to try to hide under your clothes, the connections would drop out and the ability to connect seamlessly to a smartphone was rare.

Today, that is no longer the case.

We’ve got Rode, DJI, Hollyland and Sennheiser as well as many others all putting their hats into the ring and today I’m putting the DJI Mic 2 to the test.

As a podcast producer with over 60 clients globally, I'm always on the hunt for audio and video equipment that can simplify our client workflow while delivering top-notch quality. If you're in the same boat, or perhaps just curious about whether this kit holds its ground against competitors like the Rode Wireless Pro, keep reading.

I've spent the last month and a half putting the DJI Mic 2 through its paces across a variety of environments—from the roaring waves of the beach, to the tranquil hinterland of Byron Bay, and within the confines of my home studio. My aim? To see how this system performs under different conditions and with varying sound profiles.

Speaker:

Today, I'm doing a

Speaker:

review of the DJI Mic 2.

Speaker:

This is the wireless system

Speaker:

that is kind of the competitor

Speaker:

to the Rode Wireless Pro.

Speaker:

You get two microphones, you get

Speaker:

a receiver, and there's also going

Speaker:

to be a battle between the two Rode

Speaker:

Wireless Pro and the DJI Mic 2.

Speaker:

So if that is finished and up,

Speaker:

you'll be able to go and see

Speaker:

which one is actually going to

Speaker:

be best suited for your use case.

Speaker:

Now I've been testing this wireless

Speaker:

microphone set up now for probably about

Speaker:

a month and a half to put it through its

Speaker:

paces in a bunch of different locations.

Speaker:

So I wanted to go somewhere really loud.

Speaker:

So we went to the beach and we

Speaker:

have like crashing waves and

Speaker:

things going on in the background.

Speaker:

I tested it with a few different

Speaker:

voices in that location.

Speaker:

We also went out to hinterland of Byron

Speaker:

Bay, and were again, different sounds,

Speaker:

but not as many just to see what it

Speaker:

sounds like in a location like that.

Speaker:

Tested how far away you could be.

Speaker:

So I just walked for a long time to find

Speaker:

out whether it dropped out at any point.

Speaker:

So I've tested that.

Speaker:

And I also tested it in the home

Speaker:

studio so that you could hear

Speaker:

what it sounds like when it's in a

Speaker:

location that is more controlled.

Speaker:

Although in this space, this

Speaker:

is not a very big room and

Speaker:

it's not acoustically treated.

Speaker:

So there is a bit of fluctuation

Speaker:

with kind of, Bounce.

Speaker:

And it's not a super dead space

Speaker:

as they say in the audio industry.

Speaker:

So that's something that

Speaker:

I wanted to test as well.

Speaker:

I also tested it at different locations.

Speaker:

So as in, you know, on the lapel where

Speaker:

you would normally kind of put it.

Speaker:

And then also up here where people

Speaker:

often have their microphones as

Speaker:

well, especially on TikTok videos,

Speaker:

you see everyone doing this.

Speaker:

So I wanted to show you how it

Speaker:

sounds in all those different places.

Speaker:

The other thing I did as well

Speaker:

is I also tested it using its

Speaker:

noise cancellation feature.

Speaker:

On and off, because I have

Speaker:

particular things that I want

Speaker:

to say about that particular

Speaker:

feature of the DJI Mic 2 system.

Speaker:

So the first place I'm going to take you

Speaker:

is to the beach and more specifically the

Speaker:

surfers paradise beach on the gold coast,

Speaker:

which is a beautiful stretch of beach.

Speaker:

In this situation, we're going

Speaker:

to have the noise reduction.

Speaker:

setting on on the DJI and from there,

Speaker:

you'll be able to hear how much

Speaker:

of the beach sound of the waves,

Speaker:

which are very loud by the way, how

Speaker:

much of that it actually reduces.

Speaker:

Let's go to the beach and do some tests.

Speaker:

All right, I've got the DJI

Speaker:

mic two on we're at the beach.

Speaker:

We're going to do a test.

Speaker:

With the ocean sounds in the background.

Speaker:

Okay, so I have the wind,

Speaker:

so on at the moment.

Speaker:

Now I'm gonna take the wind so

Speaker:

off, which is actually really easy.

Speaker:

Now it's off.

Speaker:

We're at the beach.

Speaker:

It's quite windy today we're gonna

Speaker:

see if we can tell the difference.

Speaker:

So this is with the wind, so off wind.

Speaker:

So off talking with the wind.

Speaker:

So off and now I'm gonna put it back on.

Speaker:

Okay, now we've got the wind top

Speaker:

on testing with the wind top on.

Speaker:

Testing with the wind sock on.

Speaker:

I'm going to walk back a long way and

Speaker:

then we're going to see when it cuts out.

Speaker:

Okay, so now I'm about 150 meters

Speaker:

is my dad, uh, at the beach

Speaker:

making some sort of sandcastle.

Speaker:

I would like you to tell me how

Speaker:

you got this particular injury.

Speaker:

You can't remember?

Speaker:

I forget.

Speaker:

But most of my injuries around

Speaker:

this here are from paint cans.

Speaker:

Oh.

Speaker:

Where they're 20 litre lids and

Speaker:

they've got sticky out bits.

Speaker:

And I walk past them.

Speaker:

Oh dear.

Speaker:

Thank you very much.

Speaker:

Talk to you later.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

I would like to know what you have

Speaker:

been enjoying about your beach trip.

Speaker:

The wind and the sun and the sand, you

Speaker:

know, all the usual beach things, yeah.

Speaker:

And the serenity.

Speaker:

And the person next to you who gets

Speaker:

up and puts all sand in your face.

Speaker:

I like how you said that

Speaker:

just after the serenity.

Speaker:

What did you think of that?

Speaker:

So the beach I thought was really good.

Speaker:

The way it actually reduced the sound

Speaker:

of the waves was pretty incredible

Speaker:

because those waves I'm telling

Speaker:

you are, were very, very loud.

Speaker:

And so listening back to that, I thought,

Speaker:

gosh, this would be really good as a

Speaker:

system in a location where it was really

Speaker:

loud, like a concert or like a, yeah,

Speaker:

something live where there's a band.

Speaker:

bunch of people and you're trying

Speaker:

to do some sort of content with

Speaker:

your phone, then that would be

Speaker:

just the perfect use case for that

Speaker:

to have the noise reduction on.

Speaker:

But did you hear how I sounded

Speaker:

with the noise reduction on?

Speaker:

Did I sound like myself or did I sound

Speaker:

a little bit the other thing that was

Speaker:

cool to see was just how far I could walk

Speaker:

and it just didn't drop out of signal.

Speaker:

Although I don't see a huge amount of

Speaker:

use cases for that particular thing.

Speaker:

Like some people may, especially in

Speaker:

the more adventure travel kind of,

Speaker:

uh, YouTube and create a economy.

Speaker:

They may use that feature a

Speaker:

little bit more, but not something

Speaker:

that I would use all that often.

Speaker:

And then you heard from a couple

Speaker:

of other voices all with the noise

Speaker:

reduction on just to see how that

Speaker:

sounded with a male and female

Speaker:

voice who happened to be my parents.

Speaker:

So that was very nice.

Speaker:

I'm not going to say too much more.

Speaker:

We're going to get back into the tests.

Speaker:

The next test we're going to go

Speaker:

through is out in the hinterland.

Speaker:

And this is with not a lot of

Speaker:

sounds around us, kind of a use

Speaker:

case that you may use the distance

Speaker:

that you may be from the device.

Speaker:

Maybe you're again, like a

Speaker:

travel blogger or someone that

Speaker:

reviews things on location.

Speaker:

That's also with the noise

Speaker:

reduction feature on so you

Speaker:

can hear what that sounds like.

Speaker:

Let's get into.

Speaker:

Okay, so we're at the

Speaker:

brooklet for this test.

Speaker:

This is with the DJI mic 2, uh, we

Speaker:

are spending a couple of days here and

Speaker:

I'm going to show you a few different

Speaker:

ways you can use this system for now.

Speaker:

This is just me with the little wind sock

Speaker:

thing on because there is a little bit

Speaker:

of wind today and I'm just getting you to

Speaker:

hear what it sounds like as I walk around

Speaker:

and as I do things, uh, as well, just to

Speaker:

see whether you can hear anything that's.

Speaker:

It's different or whether it sounds good.

Speaker:

I've got rustling grass below me,

Speaker:

whether you can hear any of that, as

Speaker:

well as, as I said, any of the wind.

Speaker:

And then as I transition onto ground

Speaker:

that has lots of asphalt, like the road,

Speaker:

how much of that road can you hear?

Speaker:

Doesn't matter how much

Speaker:

of that you can hear.

Speaker:

The point of these kind of wireless

Speaker:

systems is so that you can.

Speaker:

Move your arms, move your legs,

Speaker:

do whatever you're going to be

Speaker:

doing and it not interrupt the

Speaker:

actual flow and sound quality.

Speaker:

There was actually also just a car that

Speaker:

drove past there, so I'd be interested to

Speaker:

know whether you can hear that as well.

Speaker:

And yeah, so we're just walking along.

Speaker:

The booklet is beautiful by the way,

Speaker:

this is a really nice place to stay and

Speaker:

as you see more of this review you'll

Speaker:

see some of the locations that they

Speaker:

have here on site which is really cool.

Speaker:

This is not sponsored content,

Speaker:

we just happen to be here

Speaker:

for this round of testing.

Speaker:

So there we go, that's the

Speaker:

little test of me just out in the

Speaker:

wilderness with the DJI Mic 2.

Speaker:

Now, I'm testing it without the little

Speaker:

puffy wind sock on, so it is just as is.

Speaker:

I'm looking down at it at the moment.

Speaker:

Hi, Alex from Bambi Media and

Speaker:

we're testing the DJI Mic 2 out at

Speaker:

the Brooklet, which is a property

Speaker:

in Northern New South Wales.

Speaker:

I can currently hear very little.

Speaker:

I can hear some cars on a road

Speaker:

about 50 meters behind us, some

Speaker:

birds chirping in the background.

Speaker:

So really background noise is not much.

Speaker:

A little bit of gravel

Speaker:

underfoot, but it's pretty quiet.

Speaker:

There's a bit of birds chirping,

Speaker:

but it'll be interesting to see how

Speaker:

it's going and how it's performing

Speaker:

with this level of background noise.

Speaker:

So I'll walk a little bit further

Speaker:

away from the camera, and we'll

Speaker:

just see how clear the audio stays.

Speaker:

It's a beautiful place, the Brooklyn.

Speaker:

It's got this awesome veggie patch on

Speaker:

site, where you can harvest whatever

Speaker:

you want for your dinners and lunches.

Speaker:

There is a car coming.

Speaker:

Uh, which you'll hear soon as it passes.

Speaker:

You can see just how much noise you

Speaker:

might get in the background of the shot.

Speaker:

And that's again with the windsock

Speaker:

on and everything like that.

Speaker:

And there's a few magpies over here too.

Speaker:

So as you can see I'm probably about

Speaker:

70, 80 meters away from the camera.

Speaker:

So that's the DJI Mic 2 brought to you

Speaker:

by me and back to Rhianna in the studio.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

What did you think of that?

Speaker:

So in this one, we had my

Speaker:

voice as well as Alex's voice.

Speaker:

So he has.

Speaker:

You know, obviously a

Speaker:

deeper voice than me.

Speaker:

Could you hear different

Speaker:

inflections on the sounds?

Speaker:

How did we sound?

Speaker:

How was the EQ?

Speaker:

Could you feel and hear like a

Speaker:

full body of the sound as well, or

Speaker:

were there things missing perhaps?

Speaker:

I want you to really give that a listen,

Speaker:

maybe go back, make sure that you have

Speaker:

headphones on so that you can really

Speaker:

hear the intricacies of this microphone

Speaker:

with those setups, with those different

Speaker:

voices in those locations to double check

Speaker:

what you think about this particular.

Speaker:

device.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Now that we've done that, we're

Speaker:

going to go into the studio and

Speaker:

you're going to hear me without

Speaker:

the noise reduction feature on.

Speaker:

So this would be a use case where

Speaker:

there's no reason for you to have

Speaker:

that noise reduction on and how I

Speaker:

sound in those locations, both with

Speaker:

the microphone close to my mouth.

Speaker:

And on my lapel, so we're going

Speaker:

to use this iPhone 14 pro here.

Speaker:

You can see it's connected.

Speaker:

On this end, it's connected.

Speaker:

I've also made sure to switch the

Speaker:

settings on the DJI to mono because

Speaker:

it's just me recording by myself.

Speaker:

I don't have two speakers, I don't

Speaker:

have the need for two microphones

Speaker:

meaning that I want it to make

Speaker:

sure that there's no left and right

Speaker:

split, that it's all together.

Speaker:

So I can see there is just one

Speaker:

level here, which is the Um, mono

Speaker:

channel, just the one recorder,

Speaker:

which is what I'm doing now.

Speaker:

You want to make sure when you're

Speaker:

recording with your phone that

Speaker:

you're recording with the back

Speaker:

camera so that, because that's the

Speaker:

best quality cameras, you want to

Speaker:

make sure that you're using those.

Speaker:

So we're going to run a test with

Speaker:

the DJI with this set up recording

Speaker:

into the phone and uh, this would

Speaker:

be what most people would do.

Speaker:

So I'm going to hit record okay,

Speaker:

now I'm running the test of the

Speaker:

DJI Mic 2 in my home studio.

Speaker:

This is recorded Using just one

Speaker:

microphone, not the second one in mono,

Speaker:

so that it all comes through to the

Speaker:

one channel, both ears, left and right.

Speaker:

Although I'm completely deaf in

Speaker:

one ear, so it makes less of a

Speaker:

difference to me than others.

Speaker:

In fact, stereo is such a pain

Speaker:

because I can't hear what's happening.

Speaker:

So, this is what it sounds like in

Speaker:

this environment, with the microphone,

Speaker:

uh, in a location that is, uh, It's

Speaker:

probably what most people would do.

Speaker:

Now that I've done that, I'm

Speaker:

going to test it with it.

Speaker:

What a lot of people do they hold onto

Speaker:

it like this so that it can get closer

Speaker:

to their mouth so that you get a better

Speaker:

audio signal, but it's not really

Speaker:

what you're supposed to do with them.

Speaker:

Now I'm pretending that

Speaker:

I'm a content creator.

Speaker:

I mean, I guess I am a content

Speaker:

creator, but I'm pretending that

Speaker:

I'm doing this for a purpose

Speaker:

other than testing the microphone.

Speaker:

So this would be most people, they

Speaker:

would have some sort of little

Speaker:

tripod that they're holding, or

Speaker:

it's on the desk and they're using

Speaker:

this nice and close to their mouth.

Speaker:

So we're going to test

Speaker:

what that is like as well.

Speaker:

So that's the sample for the DJI mic 2.

Speaker:

So before I give you my

Speaker:

thoughts, what did you think?

Speaker:

Please put it in the comments.

Speaker:

What did you think?

Speaker:

How did it sound?

Speaker:

Would this be a device

Speaker:

that you would want to use?

Speaker:

Now that you've written that comment,

Speaker:

thank you so much for leaving a comment.

Speaker:

I love replying to them.

Speaker:

So the first thing I'm going to

Speaker:

make a little bit of a remark on is

Speaker:

this case within a case situation.

Speaker:

I mean, I like that.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

It's all in one, but I find it kind

Speaker:

of annoying like to get this thing

Speaker:

out and then to get this thing out

Speaker:

and then have this, like, you know,

Speaker:

things are kind of stuck away there.

Speaker:

I don't really like the design of this.

Speaker:

I find it a little bit clunky to kind

Speaker:

of get things in and out of, and it

Speaker:

feels a bit like a bit of a waste.

Speaker:

You know, it does keep everything really

Speaker:

together, really secure, really easy

Speaker:

to just pop in your bag as one thing.

Speaker:

Now, if we go into the, what's actually

Speaker:

in the hard case here, The actual devices

Speaker:

themselves are really easy to clip on.

Speaker:

I think they look cool too.

Speaker:

Just being able to see the

Speaker:

inner workings of the DJI.

Speaker:

I really liked that.

Speaker:

I like that it gives you the option

Speaker:

of the actual clip as well as the

Speaker:

magnet so that you've got a couple of

Speaker:

different ways that you can connect.

Speaker:

Two people.

Speaker:

And it is really easy

Speaker:

to connect to people.

Speaker:

The magnet thing is a little bit

Speaker:

tricky because you kind of got to like

Speaker:

slide it under and then like get it.

Speaker:

And then if it falls out, it's

Speaker:

this tiny little magnet that

Speaker:

is just somewhere on the floor.

Speaker:

So if you happen to drop it,

Speaker:

especially at the beach, that is

Speaker:

a little bit annoying, but it does

Speaker:

function a lot better if you use

Speaker:

the magnet versus the actual clip.

Speaker:

Like it just sounds better

Speaker:

because it doesn't drop forward.

Speaker:

Like I said, in one of those tests,

Speaker:

it has an on button on the side.

Speaker:

It has a record button as well.

Speaker:

And then it has a pairing button.

Speaker:

So it's pretty easy to understand

Speaker:

how this works as a microphone.

Speaker:

You just clip it on, you hit record.

Speaker:

The haptic feedback that you get

Speaker:

when you turn it on is really nice.

Speaker:

So it gives you that, okay,

Speaker:

this thing is definitely on.

Speaker:

Uh, and then it's very easy to, when you

Speaker:

hit record, there's a little red light

Speaker:

that shows you that it is recording.

Speaker:

And then there's the button gives

Speaker:

you haptic feedback as well.

Speaker:

So that kind of feature gives

Speaker:

you that extra reassurance.

Speaker:

That the device is working.

Speaker:

And then the green light tells

Speaker:

you that it's on as well.

Speaker:

You can also plug this

Speaker:

in to your computer.

Speaker:

In fact, it's necessary for you

Speaker:

to plug it into your computer.

Speaker:

If you've recorded to the device,

Speaker:

as in, if you haven't recorded it on

Speaker:

using a camera or a phone, you need to

Speaker:

plug this in so that you can actually

Speaker:

get the audio off of the device.

Speaker:

So as far as the look of those,

Speaker:

how it feels, how easy it is to

Speaker:

like get out and pull in, put

Speaker:

away, all of that is really good.

Speaker:

The actual receiver, again, you know,

Speaker:

I like that it's nice and small.

Speaker:

What I do like is that it connects

Speaker:

to the base of your phone so easily.

Speaker:

Like it's just connected to the

Speaker:

base of the phone or to, you

Speaker:

know, the other DJI products,

Speaker:

whatever you want to connect it to.

Speaker:

It does do it very simply and

Speaker:

easily, but it is quite bulky then.

Speaker:

And it, you know, it's something that you

Speaker:

have to manage as far as making sure that

Speaker:

you're not hitting things by mistake.

Speaker:

If you've got another device there.

Speaker:

I like that they've done that,

Speaker:

but I also don't like it.

Speaker:

So the DJI mic two at time of recording,

Speaker:

doesn't have an option for you to

Speaker:

connect this to your computer or

Speaker:

your phone and have any kind of app

Speaker:

customizations, anything that you want

Speaker:

to change on the device, you need to do.

Speaker:

On the device itself.

Speaker:

There's a little touch screen for this.

Speaker:

You can change the receiver settings.

Speaker:

You can change the transmitter

Speaker:

settings and you can change

Speaker:

overall settings, but they're all

Speaker:

within this little touch screen.

Speaker:

The touch screen is easy

Speaker:

enough to navigate, but the

Speaker:

feedback on it is not great.

Speaker:

Sliding through to what

Speaker:

you want takes a while.

Speaker:

Sometimes when you're first

Speaker:

using it as well, you don't know

Speaker:

what all these features are.

Speaker:

There's no way for you to figure it

Speaker:

out easily other than to go back to

Speaker:

the user manual of the DJI mic 2 and

Speaker:

find the support documentation for

Speaker:

it or a YouTube video to figure out

Speaker:

what all of these things even are.

Speaker:

So it's cool that it's simple and

Speaker:

that it's all in one thing, But I

Speaker:

actually don't like that it doesn't

Speaker:

have some way for you to plug it in

Speaker:

and mess with stuff like have an app.

Speaker:

To me, that would be a better user

Speaker:

experience than sitting there going,

Speaker:

hang on now, where was that menu?

Speaker:

And I got to click on this thing.

Speaker:

And then I got to get, you know,

Speaker:

scroll through all this stuff.

Speaker:

I don't like that.

Speaker:

I really think that DJI should have

Speaker:

an app that goes with this to make it

Speaker:

more functional, make it easier for

Speaker:

you to get what you want out of it.

Speaker:

Even getting out of the settings as well,

Speaker:

you got to kind of scroll back through

Speaker:

things, and it's not, it's not great.

Speaker:

The user guide on it I found

Speaker:

to be a little bit confusing.

Speaker:

It did explain things kind

Speaker:

of well, but I feel like DJI,

Speaker:

its first love was not audio.

Speaker:

With the user guide and the support,

Speaker:

it's lacking in that area, and that

Speaker:

has been a bit of a downfall, like a

Speaker:

bit of a negative thing for me, because

Speaker:

I'm like, if this is supposed to be

Speaker:

an audio device, this should be much

Speaker:

easier for people to understand quicker.

Speaker:

You can monitor your volume using the

Speaker:

headphone on the side, which I like.

Speaker:

And you can also obviously connect

Speaker:

this to a camera as well as a

Speaker:

phone, as well as to any DJI product

Speaker:

that is supported for it as well.

Speaker:

Now I want to talk about the

Speaker:

noise reduction features.

Speaker:

It's cool that it does a lot, that it

Speaker:

can get rid of a lot of background noise,

Speaker:

but I actually don't sound good at all.

Speaker:

And anyone that I tested with the noise

Speaker:

reduction on, whatever they've done,

Speaker:

Makes you sound kind of like trash like

Speaker:

you sound really thin it's not your

Speaker:

full expression of your voice, which

Speaker:

I would expect it wouldn't be the full

Speaker:

expression, but It's the loss that you

Speaker:

get from turning the noise reduction

Speaker:

on to me makes it Kind of useless.

Speaker:

I would not use it because it sounds bad.

Speaker:

I honestly think it sounds bad.

Speaker:

And I know that they do firmware

Speaker:

updates and I hope that they're going

Speaker:

to improve that particular feature

Speaker:

because right now I think that it is

Speaker:

just not something that is worth using.

Speaker:

Whereas when you turn that off

Speaker:

immediately, you sound so much better.

Speaker:

And so if I was suggesting that for

Speaker:

a, like, podcasting conversation or

Speaker:

an interview, absolutely make sure

Speaker:

that the noise reduction is off.

Speaker:

And by default, it is on.

Speaker:

So you need, that needs to be

Speaker:

something that you go into almost

Speaker:

immediately and go, okay, where

Speaker:

am I going to be recording?

Speaker:

Am I going to be somewhere that's loud?

Speaker:

If I'm not, get rid of it.

Speaker:

Don't have that thing on

Speaker:

because it sounds bad.

Speaker:

So on Amazon right now, you

Speaker:

can get this for around $520.

Speaker:

That's Australian dollars, which.

Speaker:

You get the case, everything you've

Speaker:

seen here, you get two microphones,

Speaker:

you get the receiver as well, and

Speaker:

you get the case and everything.

Speaker:

There's a link to do so

Speaker:

Speaker:

If that interests you, we

Speaker:

are an Amazon affiliate.

Speaker:

So we would get a teeny tiny

Speaker:

little kickback if you end

Speaker:

up purchasing this system.

Speaker:

Who do I think this is for?

Speaker:

For though.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

That's, that's the most important

Speaker:

thing that I want to go through.

Speaker:

Who is this for?

Speaker:

If you are a person that likes to

Speaker:

record on location a lot, if you want

Speaker:

to go to other people's houses, to

Speaker:

studios, to, you know, uh, anywhere

Speaker:

that or conferences, and you want

Speaker:

to take something that's really

Speaker:

simple and easy to carry in your bag.

Speaker:

If you want to go overseas and you

Speaker:

still want to record content, that's

Speaker:

the person that should have this.

Speaker:

If you're a person that's going to be in

Speaker:

your house recording, and this is for a

Speaker:

podcast, then I wouldn't recommend this

Speaker:

system because it's kind of overkill.

Speaker:

Firstly, if it's just you, you

Speaker:

don't need two microphones.

Speaker:

You don't need to spend 526

Speaker:

on this whole setup, just so

Speaker:

that you can record a podcast.

Speaker:

You can have a microphone, which

Speaker:

I've done plenty of microphone

Speaker:

reviews, and you could spend as

Speaker:

little as like 150, 200 Aussie

Speaker:

dollars, And get something that will

Speaker:

do that will suffice for your setup.

Speaker:

You really have to think

Speaker:

about what is your setup.

Speaker:

If it's just you at your house, just a

Speaker:

microphone on a stand, you would get all

Speaker:

of that for less than 500 and something

Speaker:

dollars, and you will have better audio.

Speaker:

This would be something I

Speaker:

would add to my arsenal later.

Speaker:

If I was going to then go and interview

Speaker:

people or if I want to start going

Speaker:

out and into the world and maybe

Speaker:

interviewing people on the street

Speaker:

or whatever, then you could do this.

Speaker:

If you're recording content with your

Speaker:

phone and you're wanting high quality

Speaker:

sound for your phone Stuff as well,

Speaker:

then this kind of system will work.

Speaker:

I have done other videos as well

Speaker:

where you can just use again,

Speaker:

like a traditional microphone.

Speaker:

You just plug that into

Speaker:

the bottom of your phone.

Speaker:

The Rode PodMic USB actually

Speaker:

does that really easily.

Speaker:

A lot of them are having

Speaker:

that option available now,

Speaker:

which is really, really cool.

Speaker:

You're going to get better audio doing

Speaker:

that than this, but it's like a lead.

Speaker:

It's a bit more things.

Speaker:

Whereas this is, I guess, maybe easier.

Speaker:

You just put it on here, but the audio

Speaker:

quality doesn't sound as good as it, if

Speaker:

it's down here, it's better if it's here.

Speaker:

And I don't really like the

Speaker:

way this looks like this.

Speaker:

I find distracting when I see that

Speaker:

in videos, I'm like looking at this

Speaker:

more than I'm looking at their face.

Speaker:

The branding is so.

Speaker:

big DJI that I find it distracting

Speaker:

in those videos as well.

Speaker:

But I can see how content creators just

Speaker:

want to do something that's simple.

Speaker:

You just plug that into the bottom

Speaker:

of your phone, you connect it, you

Speaker:

start recording, and you're done.

Speaker:

You're good to go.

Speaker:

So from that standpoint,

Speaker:

it is really good.

Speaker:

Uh, the other place that you might want

Speaker:

to think about using a system like this

Speaker:

is, is if you are shooting tutorials

Speaker:

or you're shooting at a whiteboard or

Speaker:

something like that, where you're going

Speaker:

to be using your hands a lot and you're

Speaker:

not going to be In the one place as much.

Speaker:

So like we have a content creators

Speaker:

Academy, which is a thing that

Speaker:

we go to high schools and then we

Speaker:

help them shoot a bunch of stuff.

Speaker:

And we have workshops that we

Speaker:

record and replay for them.

Speaker:

We can facilitate that by having things

Speaker:

like this with good quality audio.

Speaker:

Even if we're not facing a

Speaker:

microphone, you know, so that

Speaker:

kind of situation is really good.

Speaker:

If you're running workshops, live

Speaker:

events, you want to get the sound

Speaker:

from it and you are going to be

Speaker:

moving around, then this kind of

Speaker:

system will work for that as well.

Speaker:

What is my overall picture of the DJI?

Speaker:

When I first got it, I didn't like it.

Speaker:

I didn't like that there was this

Speaker:

bulky kind of case within a case and

Speaker:

I found this like, you know, having

Speaker:

to scroll through things on this

Speaker:

tiny little screen really annoying.

Speaker:

There was a few things that I

Speaker:

was I just didn't like straight

Speaker:

out of the box there with that.

Speaker:

I also didn't like that you could

Speaker:

actually have the inputs come

Speaker:

out without you knowing as well.

Speaker:

It is strong, but it's not strong enough.

Speaker:

There's a few little design

Speaker:

things that I really didn't like

Speaker:

when I first started using it.

Speaker:

And then when I first started

Speaker:

using it and I used it with the

Speaker:

noise reduction again, I hated it.

Speaker:

I was like, this is trash.

Speaker:

This sounds so bad.

Speaker:

There is no way I would ever use this.

Speaker:

But then when I turned the noise

Speaker:

reduction off, I was like, ah,

Speaker:

okay, this actually is pretty good.

Speaker:

So how I felt about it.

Speaker:

Then when I first started

Speaker:

versus now is much different.

Speaker:

I definitely like this system now.

Speaker:

There are definitely features of

Speaker:

this that are really impressive.

Speaker:

And I think that they've

Speaker:

put a lot of effort into it.

Speaker:

I would like the audio

Speaker:

quality to be better.

Speaker:

There are issues with the, like,

Speaker:

Placement of the microphone and

Speaker:

where it actually sounds good.

Speaker:

Lapels always have issues because they,

Speaker:

they can't be right close to the source.

Speaker:

It's kind of down here or

Speaker:

you have to hold it up here.

Speaker:

I think there's better situations if you

Speaker:

want really high quality audio, but if

Speaker:

you want versatility, then I think that

Speaker:

this is a really good system to get,

Speaker:

especially if you have DJI products.

Speaker:

Elsewhere as well.

Speaker:

Very easy to connect to those.

Speaker:

And smartphones are easy

Speaker:

to connect to as well.

Speaker:

So impressed with this in the end,

Speaker:

I thought I was going to hate it.

Speaker:

I didn't mind it.

Speaker:

Audio quality is pretty good and, uh,

Speaker:

something that I would recommend to

Speaker:

people, but at the price point, I would

Speaker:

also be asking, what do you need it for?

Speaker:

How many people are you

Speaker:

going to be recording?

Speaker:

Where are you going to be recording?

Speaker:

Do you need to spend 520 on this?

Speaker:

If you want help with this kind of

Speaker:

stuff and you really actually don't

Speaker:

know what to choose, you can actually

Speaker:

book in for a consult with me.

Speaker:

We can run through where you're currently

Speaker:

at, what you're trying to record.

Speaker:

We can go through your

Speaker:

recording location.

Speaker:

That's a consult that you can

Speaker:

click on using the link in the

Speaker:

description below and I would be

Speaker:

happy to get on a consult with you.

Speaker:

Just a 30 minute consult would

Speaker:

probably be all we need to establish

Speaker:

what you need for your setup.

Speaker:

And then I will be able to

Speaker:

send you through some links to

Speaker:

some things that I think would

Speaker:

really work for your situation.

Speaker:

If you like this kind of content,

Speaker:

you know, the drill, do you, you

Speaker:

should, like it, subscribe it.

Speaker:

Comment.

Speaker:

I love comments.

Speaker:

What do you think?

Speaker:

How did it sound?

Speaker:

Did you like it?

Speaker:

And will you be buying one?

Speaker:

Or is there something else

Speaker:

you would buy instead?
